About printmaking

Arjen uses a traditional printing technique known as etching, in which the artist uses a metal plate to engrave his subjects. By carving directly in the plate (dry point etching) or using acid to bite the metal (line etching, aquatint) one can create a variety of effects, allowing experimentation with colour, lines and composition. After applying ink on the plate, the image is printed on paper by using a heavy etching press.

The etchings are used as a basis of his giclee prints (fine art prints), in which he is able to combine traditional with modern digital techniques.
